Still swooning from seeing Gizz with the brilliant Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Simply no one in the world does it like these guys. What a joy.

Gizz shouted out KNEECAP and I don’t have anyone to tell so I came here.

#NowSpinning Metamodern Sounds in Country Music - Sturgill Simpson (2014)

HBD to this trailblazing masterpiece. Proved that country music doesn’t have to fit the bullshit mold that it’d been forced into and crammed down people’s throats for like the past 30 years. Sturgill is a dude, man.

MJ Lenderman up in Buffalo last night. A real treat.

#NowSpinning - We Shall Overcome - Pete Seeger (1963)

Happy Birthday to the imitable Pete Seeger. Your songs of solidarity, sunlight and love are as important today as they were during the height of the Civil Rights movement.

Deep in my heart, I do believe
We shall overcome, some day.

#NowSpinning Salad Days - Mac Demarco (2014)

HBD to my main man Macky. Love Salad Days because as much as Mac wants you to believe he is just a jizz-jazz goofball slacker, there are some seriously thoughtful and beautiful tracks on this record. So good.

#NowSpinning Nonagon Infinity - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Released #OnThisDay 2016.

I know I’ve been Gizz heavy recently but I couldn’t let today pass without giving this masterpiece a BDay shout out. Out of all 27, I’d pick Nonagon as the defining KGLW album.

#NowSpinning Boat Songs - MJ Lenderman. Released #OnThisDay 2022

My jaw just about hit the floor the first time I heard this. Here’s this 20 something kid brilliantly channeling Jason Molina, DCB, Neil Young & more. So pumped to see him in Buffalo next week. Heard he has a summer spot up there.

#NowSpinning Expensive Shit - Fela Kuti (1975)

Such a perfect Sunday night record. I won’t tell the story about how this album and its titular track got its name, but I promise you it’s worth it to look up on your own. Rarely does music so political jam this hard. Fela is an icon.

#NowSpinning A.M. - Wilco (1995)

For as much as I love all of Nels Cline brilliant guitar work across Wilco’s later records, there’s just something about the Americana/Country vibes on their debut A.M. that I just enjoy so much.

#NowSpinning Melted - Ty Segall (2010)

If you follow me you might’ve detected by now that I have a penchant for artists with deep catalogues and Mr. Segall is no exception. This early cut is one of my favorites of his. Ripper.

#NowSpinning Fishing for Fishies - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Released #OnThisDay 2019.

Another great option for anyone who is Gizz-curious but also daunted by their massive catalog. Bluesy, approachable and fun.

#NowSpinning - Violent Femmes. Released #onthisday in 1983.

I’ll always remember exactly where I was the first time I heard this record. The frustrated angst prevalent throughout the record was a perfect match for my awkward teenager self and I found this record exactly when I needed it.

#NowSpinning - Purple Mountains (2019)

The final and most tragically beautiful work of the brilliant late David Berman. Lost his game of chicken with oblivion shortly after this record was released and it’s such an honest and cutting final testament. I’ve never heard anything like it.

#NowSpinning Fine Art - KNEECAP (2024)

Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Early Irish Americans were among the first victims of the brand of abject xenophobia now spewed by DJT. Yet sadly too many Irish Americans betray their heritage and support him.

Solidarity with oppressed peoples. Tiocfaidh ár lá.

#NowSpinning Infest the Rats Nest - KGLW. 2019.

Saw someone on here the other day lamenting a lack of contemporary rock music fueled by rage/disdain for the current geopolitical shitshow we are living through. I present Exhibit A to the contrary. Fuck Elon. Mars for the Rich.

#NowSpinning Magnolia Electric Company - Songs: Ohia. Released #OnThisDay 2003

Jason Molina + Steve Albini = cosmic melancholic brilliance. Some phenomenal tracks on this record. Farewell Transmission and Just Be Simple chief among them. RIP Jason.

#NowSpinning Liquid Swords - GZA. 1995.

I’ll say it. Liquid Swords is the best Wu-Tang solo album.

#NowSpinning Wakin on a Pretty Daze (2013) - Kurt Vile

Congrats to the city of Philadelphia on the Eagles Super Bowl victory. Celebrating the occasion with an early cut from my fave Philly musician, Mr. Kurt Vile.
February 10, 2025 at 4:32 AM
#NowSpinning good kid, m.A.A.d city- Kendrick Lamar (2012)

kdot killed the halftime show. GKMC is the best narrative hip hop album of all time.
February 10, 2025 at 3:56 AM
#NowSpinning 2 - Mac DeMarco. 2012.

After all the IndieZillenial worship (rightly) bestowed on Macky, it all comes back to this record for me. Opening riff on Freakin’ Out the Neighborhood is a real tasty lick to kick off an album. Viceroy is the musical embodiment of smoking a cigarette.
February 5, 2025 at 10:51 PM
HBD MJ Lenderman!
#NowSpinning one of my favorite records from 2024, Manning Fireworks by MJ Lenderman.

Solid follow-up to 2022’s Boat Songs in which MJ Lenderman solidifies himself as one of the most exciting young Indie songwriters in the game. Plus, any album with a Buffalo shoutout is an easy 10/10

Hopping on the trend and busting out some of my favorite 🇨🇦 records, starting with the OG

#NowSpinning Summertime Dream - Gordon Lightfoot. 1976.

I’m forever a Great Lakes kid. Wrote a book report style essay about The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald in the 3rd Grade. Got an A.
