So many particles were killed to make those boards. I can still smell my similar desk, back in the last century.

I suspect racism plays a big role in the American aversion to socialized healthcare. The same folks who cannot accept having a non-white president also will not tolerate sitting in a doctor's office with non-white patients.

Well said.

It is hard to look at Mr. Clinton without remembering that he was the single most responsible party for decimating the working classes of America.

Given recent history, there is little reason to not be pessimistic. Yes, it's good that Bashar al-Assad has been deposed. This was also true of Saddam Hussein in Iraq. A very bloody aftermath ensued.

I am curious if there is any academic research on the percentage of morons in the United States compared to other nations. My guess: The U.S. doesn't have a larger percentage. However we have one of two major political parties and one large media company that actively courts and grooms them.

Note the signage. Possibly Mexican dollars (in 1974). Doubtful that anyone was spending 10,000 equivalent USD in 1974 on a television.

The scene in the crypt when Lincoln is holding his son’s body had me wiping away tears.

I am well into George Saunders’s “Lincoln in the Bardo”. So many people whose opinions I respect loved this book. But, so far, it’s not happening for me. I will try another 100 pages.

This photo captures some part of the human that was JFK. Yes, he is an overrated President. But, still, living in these times of ultra-low-bar Oval Office occupants, JFK reminds of us when presidents were mostly worthy of the office.

Thank you, Dr. Krugman.

There is little chance that this is not just another flavor of post-processing of LLM predictive bullshit. Wake me when AGI happens.

Who's afraid of antenna-laden viruses? My tin foil hat comes in handy, yet again.

There is zero chance that Biden would have pardoned his son if Trump had not won. Justice served by the MAGAs won't be justice at all. So, yes, Hunter Biden deserves some protection.

That is my fear. Hoping to be pleasantly surprised. But not really expecting that.

I absolutely can fathom the consequences. We used to assume the Republican Party would somehow restore itself to a "normal" political party. It is very difficult to see a pathway for that now.

All the safeguards that were supposed to enforce the rules, insure a sane functioning society have failed. So, yes, we are entering the post-rules zone.

Now we are just a very rich, very dangerous banana republic.

It's as if many in the press were embarrassed for the imbecility of many voters. Perhaps they found it impolite to report the obvious.
December 2, 2024 at 12:34 AM
It’s a relevant (and obvious) question. Why the defensiveness?

I guess I never "got" the Beatles. Yes, I can see how Sergeant Pepper is pretty amazing for the time period.
