Of course there‘s something in it for the USA. That doesn’t mean it will be bad for Venezuelans. My impression is that USA ran Venezuelan oil extraction pre-Chavez. And Venezuela was a *much* nicer place to live. With very high GDP and HDI for Venezuelans.

My impression was that this, somewhat corrupt scenario, was the status quo before Chavez came to power. And at that time Venezuela was a *much* nicer place to live, with close to the highest GDP and HDI in Latin America.

Umm…what makes you think Trumpismo is Chavezismo on steroids? I think it’s clearly the opposite. Maduro actually did rig an election. He’s far more corrupt than Trump. He’s the thing that people are rightly afraid that Trump will become.

Oh it’s definitely not all about drugs. Any thinking person can see that. But even if this was done for selfish reasons (eg oil for USA), there’s still the chance of a positive outcome for Venezuelans, and it’s frustrating that nobody on bsky can even recognize that.
