No, because interest rates are based on risk to the lender. Most Americans are a relatively big lending risk considering 60% can’t afford a $1k emergency expense without going in to debt. CC rates are ridiculous but so is capping them at 10% for all borrowers.

A healthy society, like a healthy garden, requires cultivation. A hands off “let the market decide” society doesn’t necessarily produce a society that anyone wants to live in. Human lizard brain impulses don’t often yield optimal human outcomes.

What is clear as day is how the Trump admin has shifted the Overton window for what his base finds as acceptable behavior. All the way back at the beginning with drain the swamp, Trump primed republicans to assume that corruption is just endemic to Washington. Everyone’s doing it why can’t we?
