Former charity fundraiser, volunteer community gardener, unsuccessfully extricating myself from many church-based activities to spend more time with friends and family. Mother of two, granny of four.
Our go-to cake was in the Marguerite Patten book that was a wedding present 50-odd years ago. Reliably luscious. We’re winding ourselves up to asking the kids (40+ years old) if they would like the usual cakes. A bit late 😜.

More traditionally served at ‘high tea’. Always toasted and rarely home-made. We would have them on Sundays with the crumpets on toasting forks held up to the open fire.

I’ve used Black Sheep Wools who have a retail outlet and operate online. My knitting enthusiasm is very spasmodic so I hope I have enough wool from the most recent purchase - last winter. Friendly, knowledgeable people. www.blacksheepwools.com

Staying in Avoch on the Black Isle, I had a late evening walk along the village and shore to avoid the motor racing on tv. A lady with binoculars pointed out that the big bird fishing along the water’s edge was an osprey. A highlight of the holiday for me.

My stunning experience of blue sea and sky was a few days after an #NHS cataract operation when I travelled to Orkney in glorious sunshine. Until then, I’d not realised how much colour the cataract had stolen.

One of those plants that just turns up everywhere, like green alkenet and toadflax.

The Merlin app on my phone identified the song of a garden warbler for the first time today - in the Malvern Hills. And a stonechat, and a black cap.

When visiting Mull a couple of years ago, we were told sternly that we must learn to identify lbjs. We’d just been looking out for flying barn doors.

The only reason he and some Tories want out is so they can enact the worse of all policies and push the UK further to the right. Farage wants fascism in the UK. youtu.be/ptfmAY6M6aA?...

Success! My granddaughter was very pleased to receive The Fifth Quarter for Christmas. Reduced text, illustrations, a girl and basketball. A hit all round. Many thanks for your guidance.
