“Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee” by Dee Brown from 1970 details with oral histories describing the horrific and graphic massacre that Pete Hegseth celebrates.

Maybe it’s already on the banned lists-deserves another read especially in these times.

Pulled an old book, 1776 by David McCullough, off the shelf to reread before the new book (posthumously) of essays “History Matters” arrives.

This will be a classic one day-should we survive the present turmoil. There are so many unfortunate parallels to where we are today in our divided society.

Giving sanctuary and holding space for wildlife are amongst my favorite ways to spend a Saturday morning in between work and gardening. #Wildlife #Nature #SentientBeings

Hibiscus blooming with temps in the 40s this morning…holding onto this beauty for a bit longer. Saying goodbye to summer feels different this year. #Summer #Gardening #Flowers #Seasons #Nature

Today the temperature and cloudy skies felt like autumn. Cue the incoming seasonal malaise and yet this rose blossomed today. #DavidAustinRoses #Tessofthed’Urbervilles #Gardening #Nature

Here are some blooms from the garden before an un-forecasted torrential thunderstorm. Roses surviving beetles and a favorite Sweet Alyssum.

I took these before an early morning walk and prior to a grizzly discovery. Nature is always there reminding, whether whispering or screaming,
“This is it.”

I spied a wee little fawn learning her Sunday brunch preferences.

She was just a nibbling around finding what tastes good. The verdict hydrangeas are tasty, bee balm not so much.

August always brings drama in the garden: beautiful blossoms and beetles humping on roses.

Beauty and frustration coupled in a moment.

Mama and fawn trying to keep cool in the forest while I hiked the trails today.

In the evenings, I’ve encountered them wading into the stream to cool down. I’m told they’re good swimmers.

‘Teasing Georgia’ is another David Austin, English climbing rose that came into bloom a few days ago during the torrential rain.

It’s more orange than yellow but blooming well and a delightful fragrance.

Here’s a newly open crimson rose named Tess d’Urbervilles.

Not even another rainy day could slow down the unfolding.

Like revisiting memories from decades ago & the simplistic triggers that encourage their vivid unfolding.
