Agreed. But Gray had licence (plus the agility and engine) to play box to box. Two narrow right and left midfielders helped us compete in midfield but when going forward the fluidity of our three young midfielders was a revelation.

Despite the legitimate misgivings about FIFA which I share, extending football to clubs around the world is likely to mean the club world cup will become an increasingly important competition over time.

Yes true...for now. But time will tell. After all, England didn't even play in the first world cups as it believed it was 'the home of football'.

The logic of this is to keep Bissouma and Bentacur as a double pivot. I get the argument about Biss being inconsistent but that wasn't that when he was the only 6? Since we have gone with the double pivot - as in the recent Europa games - we've looked much more solid.

"We can't spend what we don't have'. I don’t get this line of reasoning. Levy borrowed £852m to build the stadium and won’t pay that debt back until 2050. The stadium provides a revenue stream but so do good players through expanding the fanbase, winning trophies and improved league position.
