My purpose in life is to remind everyone that every ridiculous thing has happened before. That and to have strong opinions about Star Wars. Those two things.
That's the part that always makes me roll my eyes when someone tries to pretend it's a serious position. No one asserts this position except when you suggest they try anything other than D&D.

And if someone doesn't care about their own creative work, why should I expend any effort to engage with it. At that point it's not functionally different from AI slop.

Obviously not above critique because the reasons for that choice could still suck ass. But whenever someone throws out the "historical accuracy" defense with no rationale behind it, I can only conclude they're either embarrassed by their reasons or just don't actually care about their work.

What really infuriates me is that it's not impossible to work in that space. Women warriors in a Roman based society would be strange, frothing misogynists that they were, and "how would a society like the Romans react to <ahistorical thing>" could be an interesting narrative choice.

IT'S NOT EVEN HISTORICALLY ACCURATE RAAAA
(I know you know this, but every time I see that argument it makes me blind with rage)

It might not even be a filter, some what's going on reads as sloppy sketch work because it's a weird frame to try and reproduce in monochrome.

I can't think of a TTRPG that's managed this particularly well. Arguably some Blades in the Dark lean that way but combat isn't really a separate play mode in those the way it is in D&D-like games or in the video game examples.

So successful combat-as-failure would be interrupting the core play/goals and shifting to a new mode where your goal is to get out of combat so you can reset back to the core play/goals - possibly at a disadvantage due to having gotten into a fight.

Some of those don't have great combat but that reads as more failure of execution instead of a conscious decision. For all of them though the consistent model is combat disrupts the main gameplay loop and makes it very hard to impossible to complete the primary goals.

I think it's possible to do combat-as-failure-state where it's still fun, and in fact I think some video games have more or less pulled it off. Mostly stealth games like Splinter Cell or Thief, some of the MGS and Assassin's Creed games. But also some platformers like Mirrror's Edge.

For sure. I will say the fur (even fake fur) or sheepskin lined ones are absolutely the way to go for serious cold weather. I have a quilt lined one too and it’s fine for a crisp fall day but not for really freezing weather.

Historically there are some minor differences to each, but they’ve all pretty much converged. Traditional ushankas are fur or sheepskin lined both inside and out and tend to have less structure but even that’s not a hard and fast rule. The rest typically have an impermeable outer lining.

Trapper hat is probably how they’ll have it inventoried though ushanka is surprisingly widespread. If you’re looking online you can also find them called aviator or bomber hats.

Nah that statement is entirely correct, it’s just an indictment instead of the praise they though they were giving. We are indeed seeing the full potential.

I love the energy but unfortunately weebs and trekkies are exactly the kind of nerds to be into this.
