My first RiverFly* sample on my local Kent chalkstream: olives, mayfly, caseless & cased caddis, shrimps + other aquatic life inc tiny tadpole-like fish fry from a 3 min kick sample across the river.

A rare day #fishing a local lake. An invasion of #swans took over the water for 30 mins. Never seen so many 🦢 in one go. Sadly, their presence did not improve my catch rate but did increase my heart rate 💓

Who else has had a similar #angling / #bird experience?

Tenkara Update: After the much appreciated advice from the Tenkara tribe on here I've ordered a 12' rod/kit.

To be mainly used on the more mature #rivers & #chalkstreams in/around my native Kent (UK) - a typical example shown in the video.

Any more thoughts of #Tenkara #fishing such rivers?

Okay, any suggestions for a neophyte #Tenkara angler who wants to embrace this form of #flyfishing.
Having been researching & writing about Izaak Walton & Charles Cotton for a few years, figure it's time I followed in their footsteps and tried the no #fishing reel method.

Any tips or advice? TIA

Of all the artists to have illustrated the 100s of editions of The Compleat Angler, Arthur Rackham is one of the most highly regarded. His contemplative artwork in 1931 evoked the idyllic countryside & riverbanks from Walton's 1653 book; except for one glaring anachronism: can you spot it? #fishing

Today I bought this 1950s dice game "The Merry Game of Floundering" from an antiques centre. Seems you have to roll dice and build your flounder. You can even 'rob' fish from your opponents! Has anyone seen this before?

This week's "Angling Times" [UK] named the Lea as its 'River of the Year,' due to its record-breaking barbel & chub. In the 1650s, in his "Compleat Angler," Izaak Walton fished the same Lea (north of London) for trout & chub, with much success; if not the same record returns. #fishing #rivers #fish

Sometimes crafting a perfect fishing float takes as much time, patience and artistry as tying the perfect fly.

Or you can buy 50 vintage floats in an antiques market for £3 & save yourself a lot of bother 😁
