Rail is one of the greenest ways to travel, especially when combined with walking & wheeling, cycling and public transport - a key message as #COP30 begins today.

📢 Today, the government has taken a major step forward with a bill to set up Great British Railways - paving the way for a simpler, more reliable network, owned by the public, for the public.

We’re welcoming this important step in setting up Great British Railways (GBR). We’ll be continuing to play an active part in sharing community voices, experiences and insights, to feed into the design of GBR. From our work we see the incredible difference rail can make to people’s lives and local places, and the importance of enabling more people to use rail, for the sake of our climate and equitable access to opportunity. But we also appreciate the range of barriers people can face in using rail and making greener end-to-end journeys. We believe that rail reform, alongside wider work to improve transport accessibility and integration, will be transformative in unlocking social, environmental and economic value. We look forward to continuing to work with our members across Britain, railway and government partners, to put communities firmly at the forefront of this process of change and rail delivery. For us to create a railway that's truly inclusive, and at the heart of a sustainable transport system, drawing on local insights and treating communities as partners is paramount.
