Instead of framing it as "killing sports", perhaps a more optimistic take is that it'll help liberate Americans from an unhealthy obsession with spectator sports. Lord knows we got some other issues that could benefit from some collective attention.

K12 teacher here. Most colleagues seem blissfully unaware that text on a screen is a fundamentally different experience. Implications for developing readers is significant and yet we proceed as if the two are equal, relying on professional knowledge tailored to the printed text. SMDH 😕

Good point. Media experiences like TikTok and Fortnite present some new and special challenges in understanding how to "read" these things. The social media feed is non-narrative and more like randomly accessing media files from a database.

Also, why must the novel be the arbiter of literacy? It's a specific form from a specific context. There's a strong case to be made that cinema out-novels the novel. So, maybe we want to explore all the other avenues writing and text affords.

To be fair, the kids learn it from somewhere. My teacher colleagues (high school English department included!) spend way more time discussing things they watch than what they read. The term "binge watch" has been accepted without objection into the lexicon.

Right on. The labor issue is quite deep too, reflecting a hollowing out of the teaching profession, most directly through a hollowing out of curriculum. Teachers have never been more unclear in what they're teaching, especially in core areas of math and English.

Hydrating foods are the way to go. Drinking large volumes of water alone simply flushes things out (not always bad). Hydrating foods move that hydration slowly into your cells.
