5. Get emergency supplies
What supplies will you need if an emergency lasts a few days?
Ensure you have basics and medication in a place that's easy to find if the power goes out - if you have a car, this could be in the boot
Pack a 'grab bag' in case you have to leave quickly

4. Talk to and support others
Share information and guidance with people you know
Swap contact details with neighbours and create a local messaging group to be able to contact each other and share information in an emergency
Find out who might have additional support needs

3. Prepare your home
Know how to turn off your gas, electricity and water
Check you have the right insurance in place
Complete an online home fire safety check
Check smoke alarms monthly

2. Make a plan
Make a household emergency plan, e.g. using a template like this one
Make sure this includes key information like important phone numbers, emergency supplies, meeting points and how to switch off utilities
Talk to your children about what to do in an emergency
