The magical swords bundled in the bottom of her boat were forged from the bones of gods or fashioned from meteorite iron, and their eldritch voices promised the smith power, wealth and flawless fighting skill if she would only take them up.

When I read the header I hoped this story was about Jan Morris and her wife. And it was! What a wonderful article. I believe their joint tombstone was meant to read 'Here lie two friends, at the end of one life'.
