I'm pretty sure I'm the number one Weezer fan in the DMV.

Gamer, Nerd, Movie Buff, VHS Collector, and proud (?) to say I've watched every single episode of The Simpsons.

For trash movie opinions: https://letterboxd.com/Commonscout/
For the 4th year in a row, Weezer is my top artist. Also pretty sure 0.2% is a new record for me.

And with that, after over a whole year, I'm done (with what's currently on streaming). I'm finally, FINALLY done!

I can finally move on and watch other shows, movies, and just do other things in general now that this is over.

So what are my final thoughts?

This era of the show has definitely done good things for the overall rating. Despite still being below some of the best of the middle years, this season is at least mostly watchable from start to finish.

Season 36 is... decent?! Yeah, this is the best season score-wise since Season 15. Despite a few bad ones, there's a lot of fun ideas and great episodes that keep this afloat, perhaps in due to this having the most non-canon episodes by far.

Best: Bart's Birthday

Worst: Desperately Seeking Lisa

S36E22: Estranger Things

The season finale is a great one! I love the Bart and Lisa dynamic present, the depiction of the future is more measured, and I love the parody of When She Loved Me from Toy Story 2. Also a change of pace with Marge dead instead of Homer.

S36E21: Full Heart, Empty Pool

Boring. I do like episodes where Homer isn't being a complete jerk to his dad, but what we get is a lame sports episode that at points tries to be a parody of Challengers. They should have gone all in on the latter concept.

S36E20: Stew Lies

So the first five minutes are about this great Bart and Lisa plot but then it just gets... abandoned? Like, never mentioned again and it's frustrating they gave up on it. The rest of the episode is solid since I love Fat Tony but I wish the first part was the whole thing.

S36E19: Abe League of Their Moe

Try saying that title parody three times fast. This episode is sort of frustrating because it's a unique team-up but the interesting part doesn't happen until it becomes about sports gambling. Other than that there's nothing going here.

S36E18*: Yellow Planet

This one definitely feels mandated by Disney. I was pretty blank-faced throughout this because it's just Simpsons characters as animals. Nothing special, but some of their designs are clever and there's some nice scenery. This ends tomorrow!

S36E17: P.S., I Hate You

A fairly well-written episode. I think my main complaint here is I wish the mystery of who took the letters was prolonged for a while longer. The chase scene between Marge and Shauna is pretty good, plus the ending is nice. There was one joke that busted my gut.

S36E16: The Last Man Expanding

So this is commentary on the recent surge of weight loss drugs but boy is this episode so surface level. On top of South Park doing this concept way better (ironic), the thin character models are just so dang uncanny. They also say "Ok Boomer" five years late.

S36E15: The Flandshees of Innersimpson

This was such a pleasant surprise! I like how they explored Homer and Ned's rivalry, and the way Ned finally snaps is brilliant and isn't just a repeat of Hurricane Neddy. Plus the episode is really funny, and the resolution works well.

S36E14*: The Past and the Furious

So I definitely love the 1920's aesthetic and soundtrack. The main plot with Lisa being able to go back in time and meet the old Mr. Burns has potential, but I would have preferred an episode fully in the past about Burns.

S36E13: Bottle Episode

Okay, that's a clever title. Anyways, this is a fun one, albeit flawed. Having Marge kickstart the problem by screwing up is a nice change of pace, the dynamic she has with Smithers is underrated, and the Robin Hood scenes are eye candy. Not great, but still fun.

S36E12: The Man Who Flew Too Much

This episode is bad. Reusing the Pin Pals, Fausto (from The Wife Aquatic) of all characters returns only to be pointless, yet another Mona Simpson appearance which is equally pointless, and forced emotions all around. Also it's a forced Christmas episode.

S36E10&11*: O C'mon All Ye Faithful

Our first Disney+ exclusive episode (denoted by *), and it's double length at that. Ned's faith crisis is one of his best plotlines in a long time, but the stuff with Homer thinking he's Santa and Derren Brown is filler and brings it down overall.

S36E9: Homer and Her Sisters

This had the potential to be so much better. The concept of Homer actually being friends with Patty & Selma is a concept I'm shocked the show hadn't done yet, but of course it's wasted amongst a Krusty subplot that nobody cares about with a rather dark ending.

S36E8: Convenience Airways

This one was pretty funny. It's centered around unruly and annoying airplane passengers and the writers do quite a bit with it. All five members of the family have fun moments, and the whole secret prison is so ridiculous that it works. Very good episode.

S36E7: Treehouse of Horror Presents: Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes

We're really doing this again after we already had a ToH? All three stories are pretty decent and there wasn't anything outlandishly bad, but I would never watch this again. I did kind of like the framing device, however.

S36E6: Women in Shorts

This is essentially another 22 Short Films but about the Women of Springfield. The problem is this has basically no flow to it whatsoever. Every now and then there's a good idea or joke but I would've rather one of these ideas fleshed out more.

S36E5: Treehouse of Horror XXXV

The Pacific Rim parody based on American politics is whatever, but the other two segments make up for it. I love the EAP parody with its actual horrific imagery, and the Denim segment is excellent. I especially love the art style of Homer's pants.

S36E4: Shoddy Heat

I do like the mystery presented, and the lore makes for at least an interesting watch, sliding timeline aside. What I don't like, and others have brought this up, is the show explaining Grampa is the reason Homer is still at the plant. Needless explanation.

S36E3: Desperately Seeking Lisa

A snore-fest. On top of this being yet another Lisa chasing trends episode, it's an episode that straight up rushes its ending and shoehorns in a b-plot with Chalmers that has no real resolution. Also, Patty and Selma are forgotten about after the first act.

S36E2: The Yellow Lotus

I've never watched The White Lotus so I don't know how well this parodies it. On its own, it's mid. It tries to be a Sideshow Bob episode but it barely has a resolution. Also, this is at least the third time the hedge meme has been referenced and its getting old.

S36E1: Bart's Birthday

Everyone has praised this episode and for good reasons. It's hyper-meta but in a tasteful way, it's a clever poke at AI, there's so many references for hardcore fans, and it's funny. Best episode in at least a decade and maybe longer.
