The Bourgeoisie aren't united, but they have class solidarity. The people, desperate from the crises created by deregulation & inequality, might turn to socialism & liberation. The Bourgeoisie--Democrat & Republican--funnel them towards fascism instead, which would maintain bourgeois dictatorship.

The reason why so many old political cartoons are still relevant today is because we live under the same relations of production. Technology may have advanced, but we are still stuck under the boot of a ruling class with its origins in the middle ages and an ideology from the 18th century.
