Remembering Darwyn Cooke on his birthday

This piece has always been one of my all time favorites. From Batman and Jonah Hex having a big laugh, to Slam and King Faraday coming in together, to Batgirl working the night shift, every corner of this radiates why I love these characters so much.

I spent my morning getting a little under halfway through the Collected Essex County. That Jeff Lemire guy is pretty good at the comic books.

It's more of a hangout than a lair, but it does have Eight-Ball so...

No matter how long your Halloween is, I hope that you have a good one!

New Frontier is definitely on there for me, but beyond that these four (of many) come to mind. Not the books that got me into comics, but some of the favorites that have stuck with me.

"Friends" is a beloved American sitcom that aired from 1994 to 2004, following six young adults—Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe—living in New York City. The show explores their friendships, romances, careers, and personal growth over ten seasons.

I think that it's super cool that the new Ultimate Universe has so many characters who don't exist in the main line of comics. Miles was the biggest hit out of the first Ultimate Universe, so it was great to see them go all in on these new faces.

Just nabbed most of the back issues for Ram V. and Evan Cagle's New Gods run.

Every new thing that I learned about this book had slowly been wearing me down, but it was this page and a well timed sale that pushed me over the edge. Super excited to get caught up!

Really looking forward to Wrestle Heist this December!

Kyle Starks told me to look out for this at a con last year, and the premise sounds so great.

RIP Drew Struzan

An overwhelming majority of my favorite movies have a Drew Struzan poster. His account was always a joy on the other place.

Pacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature! offers a Vigilante adventure by Tim Seeley and Mitch Gerads and an Eagly adventure by Rex Ogle and Matteo Lolli. Its collected edition will be available in November, and I’m looking forward to reading it!

For anyone wanting a more familiar version of Peacemaker, DC has published two stand alone books in the spirit of the show!

Peacemaker: Tries Hard by Kyle Starks and Steve Pugh is available now and, if you like the show, I can’t endorse it enough.

If you’re interested in some of Peacemaker’s earliest adventures, the recent collection DC Finest: Peacemaker is worth a read! It features his 60’s Charlton introduction, his DC debut as a Vigilante antagonist, quarrels with his dead dad, and excerpts from Checkmate issues.
October 14, 2025 at 3:37 AM
The finale also sees Peacemaker join Checkmate, a team familiar to Christopher Smith’s comic book counterpart. Paul Kupperberg and Steve Erwin introduced the team in 1988’s Action Comics #598.

The Salvation prison that Lex, his henchpeople, and Flag Sr. are so interested in originates in the 2008 storyline Salvation Run. Writers Bill Willingham and Lilah Sturges crafted the series based off of a pitch by George R. R. Martin with artists Sean Chen and Joe Bennett.

Otis Berg isn’t a character in the comics, but I do love Ned Beatty.

Amanda Maire McCoy is also a creation of John Byrne, who is Lex’s number one supplier of returning hench-people. She also made her debut in 1986’s Superman #2.

Lex’s guy, Sydney Happersen, was created by John Byrne in 1986’s Superman #2.

Lex Luthor, who needs no introduction, was created by Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. He first fought Superman in the 1940 issue Action Comics #23.
