So groups like Canada Proud/Mobilize Media Group (a private arm of the Canadian Conservative Party) create astroturf orgs like "Canadian Crime Watch" and use them to do political advertising. Then, just before the official election dates they suspend their campaigns so they don't have to register.

We live in an era where we are bombarded with more political advertising than ever, and yet registered third party advertisers have dropped from 154 to 99.

This isn't the first time we've seen these links either. Ending in 2023 the Mayors Office was spending $8k/month on Wellington Advocacy, the political consulting company that shares an office and staff with Stephen Harper's Harper and Associates.

So why is Sim sending staffers to this group? Well, looking up that staffer, it looks like a few months after they went off to this conference they took a new job - as a Policy Advisor to The Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition.

As such it should be no surprise that this organization partners with groups like The Modern Miracle Network, a front for the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, which has funded many of the small far-right groups across Canada, including Canada Proud.
