This whole situation is insane given most ISPs give you the opportunity as a parent to disable/limit usage of certain sites and services as part of your internet package. The fact that it isn't in our hands just shows it as the thinly veiled crackdown on freedom it is.

Exactly. One of the channels in my discord server was asking me to verify because it had "nsfw" in the channel name. I renamed it to "cuddles and smiles" and the age verification went away. It's lazy and flaky and I hope it encourages even more VPN and encryption usage.

It's not the traffic inside those VPNs they're looking at, it's the % use of VPNs now vs before their stupid laws. If there's been a % increase (which there has been), they might feel butthurt enough to ban VPNs too, which is much easier than banning adult content because it's just an IP blocklist.

It'd go the same way the brexit vote did. Millions of lied-to, impressionable people following the loudest voice in the room, being told who to blame for all their problems. Then half of them would backtrack immediately once they found out what they voted for in ignorance but it'd be too late.

Modern laptops seem better in some ways, but I keep seeing awful design choices leading to way shorter lifespans than I'd expect - ribbon cables with awful pinch points, obvious fatigue failures that seem baked in. Whoever designs phones infiltrated laptops and made those throwaway after 2yrs too
