Germany is trying to deport four people - two Irish, one Polish (EU citizens) and a US citizen - over their involvement in anti-Gaza war protests. It appears to be the first time that German deportation orders cite its pledge to defend Israel ("Staatsräson") as justification. 👇

Jeff Bezos has told Washington Post staffers its opinion section is shifting to "writing every day in support and defence of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets".

Opinion editor David Shipley is to "step away" after declining to lead the section under the new focus.

Sad day for music. I once saw him getting into a taxi in Dublin with a pint in one hand and cigarette in the other. The taxi driver, first seeing the pint, looked ready to tell him to get lost, and then saw who it was and said "Oh, Mr MacGowan!" and opened the door for him.
