There’s a cargo cult aspect to his team, and the Labour Right more generally. Punching the left has been associated with success in the past, so punching the left therefore leads to success in itself.

It just doesn’t feel like a gig venue, and then there is the broader Watford problem that for slightly more travel time you could go to a better venue in London. E.g. Ronnie Scott’s is an hour door to door from my house.

The Nazi taboo also went along with a stereotype of what a racist looked like - skinhead, football hooligan, tattoos etc. As you got into the 90s those people barely existed outside a very ostracised sub culture, which ironically let people like Farage use the camouflage of a suit and tie.

The use of easily recognisable slurs *might* be more damaging than the earlier stories which relied on people understanding what the Horst Wessel song was.
