Couldn’t agree more. The “you’re talking about it, so I succeeded” is such a nonsensical dismissal of critique (about criticism itself, mind you) that it can be universally used as a shield for all sorts of garbage, and, frankly, lays bare that the choices are indefensible but the author cares not.

Someone tried to edit a paragraph of mine to grammatically use “data” as a singular noun and it angered me to my core. I salute you!
