I used to have a Very Nice motorcycle on which I would pull in the clutch and coast when I passed dogs and strollers. Now I live within earshot of a mile-long bridge that loud cars speed across at night and I realize that the bigger the road the more people a loud exhaust imposes upon. Antisocial.

Maybe it’s of a different time to have a character that is a better version of (at least a part of) one’s self rather than a brand or marketing tool. I am, after all, old. I think this is okay and that there’s still space for me. I will die and will not leave stickers behind, but will have hugged.

As someone who is all the way furry inside but too much a coward to rep the merch in the world, it can be slower to make new connections. But precious moments still happen when I’m just my character to me and everyone. I can still be a mouse for a moment and love and be loved and eventually seen.

I’ve been party to several conversations where interviewers have discussed whether or not the candidate was typing questions in to an LLM and parroting back answers. We’re designing questions that aren’t LLMable because we already have ChatGPT (should we want it) and don’t need to hire it FFS.

That’s an interesting observation. I wonder what the average age in tech looks like compared to a decade ago. There certainly seem to be a lot of brilliant intern candidates and not a lot of open reqs in my org. The reqs that do open are backfill, and the perceived need is for equivalent experience.

The paint is the only weak part of that car. They’re just superb until 2023 when they start reporting location of the car and complete telemetry every time the key is turned off. There’s a hideous opt out procedure you have to do in 2023 and later. You got a good one!
