I think the biggest issue is apathy. People feel their government doesn't work so it doesn't matter if they vote or not. As a liberal living in a red state, I feel that, but I still vote. Now we have two Democratic senators.

I agree. People who didn't vote, absolutely consented to the outcome.

Not to undercut your point that the USA brought this on ourselves and the world, but Trump received fewer votes than Biden. However, because of the way our elections work, he won more electoral votes.
