At the Council of Elrond in forested Rivendell, the newly formed Fellowship of the Ring stands. In two rows, the front consists of hobbit Samwise Gamgee, hobbit Frodo Baggins, hobbit Meriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck, hobbit Peregrin “Pippin” Took, and dwarf Gimli son of Gloin, and the back has human Aragorn/Strider, istari Gandalf the Grey, wood elf Legolas, and human Boromir.
