I'd say S.C. planters created the Deep South -- the lowlands of GA, MS, AL, north FL, east TX, river counties of Ark and TN -- which have profound cultural and political differences from the rest of "the South" (really the Tidewater, Greater Appalachia.) www.nationhoodlab.org/a-balkanized...
