Working out the Ecell of a copper/copper(II) and iodine/iodide electrochemical cell. In other words we are trying to find the voltage created by these two solutions when joint in a circuit with no outside power supply acting on the system, hence I made electricity ⚡️
Before we could find the Ecell (Voltage created) of the electrochemical cell, I had to carry out electrolysis on a solution of potassium iodide. This was because the “stick” in the solution needed to have a layer of iodine, the reddish brown liquid, on it and be surrounded by its iodide ions.

Finding out the percentage of copper in brass screws. On average brass is about 60% copper; and I successfully got 60.95% (1.6% error) for my 4 brass screws that I dissolved in concentrated nitric acid and then titrated that solution with sodium thiosulphate.
Dissolving brass screws in concentrated nitric acid; and the brown gas given off is nitrogen dioxide which is deadly if inhaled. This is when I added an excess of potassium iodide to 25 centimeters cubed of copper(II) solution to give a diarrhea colored solution. This is the final result of my titration with sodium thiosulphate; and the diarrhea colored solution turned to a lovely coffee foam/milkshake colored solution. The blue solution in the background is the copper(II) solution.
