Big fan of the Haunting, especially for new players. I've made a ton of handouts and tweaks and mods and the sense of creeping doom as they start investigating the history of the house and realizing just how bad things are going to get are just ... *Chef's Kiss.

I would say it is homebrew. You are playing in a way different than what the publisher wants/expects.
