I don't know if you want tips or anything, but I finally beat him and it had very little to do with tools, in the end. I had spent most of my attempts stuck to one of the sides, but once I started leaving the sides and attacking the middle I had a much easier time.

I had to leave and go get different tools and still haven’t gotten the energy to go back to that fight yet.
