We began the Ethical Web Principles as a W3CTAG doc, to record the ethics behind our architectural decisions & advice.

Today, it’s a W3C statement: it’s been endorsed by W3C as a whole

Whose in?

The Search Choice Alliance is a coalition of search engines dedicated to the principle that consumers should have the right to use their search engine of choice on Apple devices.
This is wild! Google launches “browser choice coalition”
The Browser Choice Alliance launches today, championing consumer rights around desktop browser choice and respect for default settings; values that strongly align with OWA's mission.

Please don't take a view on farmers until you have read this spot on piece.

Growing up with grandparents, who like James Rebank were Cumbrian famers, I know too well how they struggled back then. And it's gotten dramatically worse.
I have a more empathy for British farmers as a result of reading this:

As expected, Trump named Brendan Carr to chair the FCC. Carr is a big fan of Starlink and is vocal about the need to reform the protections that Section 230 gives big tech.

Here’s his recent thread about big tech, the “censorship cartel,” and his concerns about NewsGuard and fact checkers.

Good initiative! I've been thinking of extending www.w3.org/2022/tdmrep/ for this kind of application. One thing to keep in mind is that the problem predates LLMs (though it was impossible to get any eyes on it prior to that explosion). For instance, voice assistants are a problem too.

I've long said the Web is about autonomy, and that we are losing it.

This excellent blog post articulates the point and goes deeper.
Have you ever wondered what the Web is *for*? Well, if we're going to build a better one, it might be worth spending a moment considering the question. This is the second installment in my series on building a better web.

The Web Is For User Agency
We take the Web for granted as that thing that's there and we talk of things being good or bad for the Web, but we don't ever sit down and really say what the Web is for. I take a look at this questio...
