I'm happier than I can put in words to share that research group PhD alum Chloé Schmidt (@chloology.bsky.social) has won this year's Dobzhansky Prize from the Society for the Study of Evolution!!!!!!!! 🧬 🧪

The latest from Eleana Karachaliou is up! Synthesizing data from 75,496 individuals, 73 species & 1143 sample sites, we found a globally consistent negative effect of urbanization on genetic diversity but not differentiation in marine fish.

New pre-print!

*Climate change, age acceleration, & the erosion of fitness in polar bears*

Epigenetic age acceleration reflects an individual’s cumulative lifetime experiences of stress. Polar bears aged 1 year faster on ave per °C temp rise since 1980 1/n

We tackled our question w/ data #synthesis, combining 3 independent, population-level demographic datasets (#mammals)

Sites nearer to transitions between regions tended to have lower effective population sizes and genetic diversity, & were more genetically differentiated! 3/4

(stealing text from Chloe's thread at the other place twitter.com/chloology/st...)

Chloe asked how #biogeographic regions are able to maintain distinct species groups. Why doesn't more mixing occur across biogeographic boundaries? 2/4
