I’m sick of these men, and I’m sick of the men and women who protect them. I’m sick of missing stairs and bullies and pleasantries and accolades. That’s where I’m at today.

Ten years ago I was a kid who had nothing, and now I’m an Ivy League professor at the top of my field, and there are days that I liked being nobody a whole lot better. You can sternly tell yourself in the mirror that it’s all for the work, but so far, I don’t really think it’s helped mine get done.

It would almost be comforting if there was one overarching plot line that consumed every powerful tier within every field. But there’s a hundred of these threads, to different degrees, that will never even take down two men. The culture of money, power, parties, and prestige is hyperendemic
