Mainly talks about EVs, but interested in/very worried by all things climate changey
Here's some A-grade EV misinformation from the
@telegraphnews.bsky.social

"EV fires up 77% in two years!!!"

What the Telegraph fails to mention is that the number of EVs on our roads has gone up 105% in those 2 years

Which means the frequency of EV fires has actually gone down!

Delighted to join Liz Allen (@fullcircleci.bsky.social) on her latest Electric Evolution podcast

We discuss the changes the Government has made to the ZEV Mandate - changes I believe weaken the mandate and could slow EV sales

Do have a listen if interested

In this article, Steve Rigby suggests Net Zero and the shift to EVs could see the UK lose its car industry

I'm afraid a report by the CBI found the complete opposite - going slow in making the move to building EVs represents the biggest threat

A thread

2 things I don’t quite get about ‘privacy concerns’ about Chinese EVs

1 - a lot of people who have these fears are quite happy inputting confidential information into Chinese-made phones

2 - if spyware was actually discovered on Chinese EVs, the market for them would collapse

Of all the comments I've seen at the bottom of newspaper articles on EVs, this is probably my favourite yet

Telegraph: “there aren’t enough EV chargers!”

Gov and industry: “ok, we’ll build lots more chargers”

Telegraph: “stop building EV chargers because, erm, potholes!”

(Article doesn’t cite any evidence that building more chargers will result in more potholes)

The data - global sales of EVs increased by 25% in 2024

The @telegraphnews.bsky.social - "European electric car market suffers ‘devastating’ collapse!!!"

(sales fell 3% in Europe)

Great to see @thetimes.com reporting on the fact that credits to hit the ZEV mandate can be earned by selling EVs AND selling large numbers of low CO2 emitting ICE cars

Which is why, far from struggling with the mandate in 2024, the car industry as a whole hit its targets

Express reports on warnings that jobs could be lost if EV sales targets are watered down...

...with a headline - "Panic as thousands of jobs in Britain could be lost due to new EV targets" - that says complete opposite

Rules are clear, headlines need to be supported by the text

A reminder that, whenever a paper like the @telegraphnews.bsky.social does an article about EV drivers with buyers' remorse, it's always based on 1 or 2 individual experiences

Reference is never made to all the surveys that show that 90% of EVs drivers say they would never go back to petrol
December 2, 2024 at 3:04 PM
But others are knocking it out of the park

BMW and Mercedes, for example. The 'real' target that both need to hit in 2024 remains 22% (because their ICE cars produce a lot of CO2)

But BMW is on 24.9% and Mercedes is on 25.3%

Look at Ford - they need to hit 17.3% EV sales in 2024, and are only at 9.3%

And Renault - they need to hit 17.1% and are only at 8.3%
November 21, 2024 at 11:26 AM
Another example is Hyundai - it's estimated that they need to hit 15.7%, and are currently on 16.3%

Now, given current reporting on this issue, the story that would be told is that Toyota and Hyundai are really struggling to hit the ZEV mandate, as they're way short of 22%
November 21, 2024 at 11:26 AM
Take Toyota - they produce lots of relatively low CO2-emitting hybrids

New Automotive has estimated that this means only 10.9% of the cars they sell in 2024 need to be EVs to comply with the ZEV Mandate

The table also shows you that Toyota are currently at 10.1% EV sales

Those who want to get tough on 'rouge' cyclists never seem to have any interest in getting tough on 'rogue' car drivers (who can do a hell of a lot more damage)

Favourite snippet in this piece - apparently Ed Miliband is to blame for cyclists being 'entitled'

Seems tenuous/harsh
