Yeah, the patent shouldn't have made it to filing and if someone can afford to challenge it there are so many examples of the mechanic existing long before filing.
It's just a bullshit attempt to put more pressure on competitors because Nintendo has the cash for game dev but not the talent.

It's certainly not easy. Gotta rely on existing infrastructure while alternatives are built. Not everyone has the skills and drive to build said systems, so this will take time. Once alternate systems are in place, starve the beast or roast it.
