Great follow up report here - the reality of low margin, low commitment, services like haulage is that companies can’t afford to carry surplus driver capacity. This perpetuates the availability crisis. @sarahoconnorft.ft.com is right we have learnt few lessons about value of supply chain resilience
Whatever happened to the Great British Truck Driver Shortage of 2021? Did it get resolved? Did anyone learn anything? The short answer is: drivers got more money & the acute shortage went away. However... www.ft.com/content/f320...

It's been a long time since Private Eye's satire has made me audibly wince, but this is so to the point if it were a knife people would demand it be banned.

Donald Trump's inauguration moved indoors in frigid Washington DC
The last president to be sworn-in indoors was Ronald Reagan in 1985, when cold weather also plagued the US Capitol.

Big tick off the bucket list today - a tour of Robben Island. Mandela is a pretty obvious hero to have but I was 11 when I saw him walk free and probably 15 when I first read Long Walk To Freedom - being here is a timely reminder that good, important, things, can happen and cherishing them matters

I’ve been working for many years talking about the ‘cold chain’ - I wish I could reach for eloquence and insight of Nicky Twilley - the wonder and challenges of the ‘artificial cryosphere’ are fascinating and her book is well worth your time - whoever you are m. Read it? Tell me what you think?
A ‘Global Cold Rush’ Is Reshaping the Planet, and How the World Eats
“You really don't need to have a tomato in December,” Nicola Twilley, author of Frostbite, says on this week’s Zero. “Just don't do it.”

Fantastic to be in Cape Town this week bringing our members together to deep dive into the progress and opportunities of the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement - and there is no better way to warm up than spending time dockside seeingp the unloading and sorting for ourselves! #coldchain #trade
