What is ectotherm?: Ectotherms are animals that rely on external environmental heat sources to regulate their body temperature, like the sun, rather than producing heat internally as endotherms (like mammals and birds) do. Ectotherms include fish, reptiles, amphibians, arachnids and insects.
Amphibians are under appreciated

In the future, I am going to start a fish business- selling pet fish. I will be putting all of the money that I earn into my retirement savings or a down payment for a house. I would love to start selling to folks here.

Been seeing this a lot so pls don’t give attention to “cute” content of prey animals and predator animals interacting with each other in close proximity it’s like 98% chance the prey animal is showing signs of extreme stress that people online are misconstruing as “cute” or “content” 🥲🥲🥲

Sponges are one of the oldest animals ever. They have no organs or tissues. They have regeneration abilities, and because of that, are thought to be immortal, due to their ability to regenerate infinitely.
Most live in saltwater but some live in freshwater.

I strongly dislike evolution deniers

Ectotherms lower metabolic rates means they can go longer without eating compared to endotherms, which must eat more frequently to fuel their constant energy demands.

Fish schools! 🐠🚌🎓✏️

In the wild, in both fresh and saltwater, Fish schools can be made up of hundreds and thousands of fish. They help them swim more efficiently, conserve energy, and protect from predators by being in mass numbers.
Meet the ember tetra!! An example of a schooling fish.

People treat cold blooded animals as less than compared to mammals like cats and dogs. This is why places like petsmart and petco cram them up. They aren’t seen as real animals because they aren’t as annoying as a dog. 🙄

1/3 For #MolluskMonday, focus on the Queen Scallop: just like trees it produces growth lines (usually in winter) that can be used to know their age.

But they also have daily growth lines, that unlock different environmental signals : temperature, seawater chemistry, etc.

There is WAYYYY MORE ectothermic animals than endothermic animals

Ectotherms are nature’s energy-saving geniuses! 🐍🐸 Instead of burning calories to stay warm, they thrive by soaking up the sun and adapting to their surroundings. Efficient, resilient, and full of surprises—ectotherms prove that cold-blooded is anything but boring, more like endlessly fascinating 💙
