USSR (not Russia) was suffering from the purges of Stalin (Georgian), so had lost its expertise. They had to hold the line at any cost in order to move manufacturing beyond Ural.

Germans lost most of their men & equipment inc most of Luftwafe at Eastern Front, due to ferocity of the war.

I think someone needs to show him the military casualties numbers in the European theatre:

USSR: 8.7-11.9M
Germany: 4.4-5.3M
UK: 380K
Italy: 310-340K
USA: 250k (Excluding Conflict with Japan)
