What does "rarity" mean anyway? This Sphagnum-fringed pool in Westmorland yielded 1 Lophomma punctatum, 2 Bathyphantes gracilis, 1 Mecynargus morulus, but 'only' 39 Semljicola caliginosus (new hectad record too & commonest 🕷️in sample🤔) @britishspiders.bsky.social @ecology-digest.bsky.social

It truth it probably occurs in every sizable UK town now, just under-recorded. iRecord shows how ubiquitous it is in lowland England. @britishspiders.bsky.social Visit irecord.org.uk/enter-srs-re... to submit records to the Spider Recording Scheme.

A quick site recce to an Anglesey Fen (with no previous spider records), seemed like a good excuse to take the Vac. NR Attulus caricis at a new site. Had to work hard to find wet Schoenus here!! @britishspiders.bsky.social @graemelyons.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social @chalkspring.bsky.social

You were right Jess! The Sedge bed did produce something interesting - 7 female Entelecara omissa new to Cheshire. A nice fenland species. But still debating whether it was worth missing out on ice cream for this tiddler 😆 @britishspiders.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social @graemelyons.bsky.social

Who ate all the flies? An abandoned room occupied by Eratigena with a +1 m web - obviously pigging out on Cluster Flies. Sadly the spider was long departed (presumably a male that matured and left). @britishspiders.bsky.social

Cofnod #RecordOfTheWeek is this hatching Ddraig Goch! OK maybe not, but SueL's photo of a small Puss Moth caterpillar definitely has a dragony look about it! We resisted the urge to add beady eyes to the image 😁 @sewbrec.org.uk @wwbic1.bsky.social @bispowys.bsky.social
