Coffee fiend, X-Twitter refugee, Unix geek, and reluctant suburbanite.
You see a stack of computer books from 1995 to 2007. I see most of my career in two neatly heterogenous piles.

Lake George is about to get fucked.

When line voltage sags, anything with a motor runs slower. Others in the town have reported voltages of 90-95V, and their AC won’t even start.

PSE&G “reassessing condition” = we don't know what the fuck our guys are doing while a bunch of our customers broil all night in their lifeless houses.

Turn off Copilot in Outlook, and watch that conceited little icon reappear. Over and over again. Microsoft has become a drug dealer that simply won’t let its customers quit until they’ve been bled dry. #microsoft #ai #enshittification

Gosh, how did we not see that coming? #schadenfreude

The U.S. administration has been playing “FA” with economic levers for the past ten weeks. Now we‘ve reached the beginning of “FO”. #schadenfreude

Facebook took down my post, added posting restrictions, and denied my appeal within minutes. The post that merited this automated censorship was an invitation to read Adolf Hitler’s history, and understand how such a source of evil didn’t just pop into existence one fine day. Nor did Facebook.

Do you know what the New York Times app gives you that you won’t get through a normal web browser? Extra tracking and surveillance.

From the frequency of these browser intercept messages, #NYT is desperate for your reading habits and location data, and it’s not a good look. #privacy

Verizon pushed an Android update to my phone last night that makes it impossible to use my own DNS server. I created a workaround for a critical web service, but it required that I create a new self-signed SSL/TLS certificate...

I hope Facebook gets fully back up soon, before all the addicts start getting their cravings.

On the bright side, we can rest assured that as Attorney General, Matt Gaetz won’t be soft on child pornography.

I’m glad that Google recognizes a few of the world’s cuisines as “legitimate” for a restaurant search, but this list is still pretty pathetic. Have a little faith in peoples’ ability to take a chance on food they haven’t encountered before.

This is what Google’s “AI” claims is the difference between files with a .cer versus a .crt suffix. Makes me not trust either Google or AI — garbage in, garbage out. #GIGO #noAI

My review of Google Photos for Android, which simply cannot accept that a user wouldn't want to store all their AI fuel, er, personal photos, in a cloud account that they can access. I have begun calling BS on apps that do this.

When literally a third of the items in a store are now impossible to look at labels for without calling a clerk for assistance, I really have little incentive to shop in real brick and mortar stores like Duane Reade or CVS.

I’ve quietly let my last monthly train pass expire. NJ Transit’s upcoming 15% fare hike wasn’t the cause, but it was a catalyst, forcing me to think about the things I truly value. And I have lots of time to think as I’m stuck on a delayed train for the second time this week. #njtransit #waytogo

A local restaurant chose their web site designer very, very unwisely.

Once in a while, I get to ride in a #njtransit train car whose windows are clear enough to see stuff a few feet away.

It’s hard to believe this is the first time I’ve ever needed one of these at home. #homenetworking #iykyk

Well, this is new. So new, in fact, that #njtransit hasn't set it up yet. #newarklightrail
