When I listen to my parents describe my grandparents to my sister’s kids who either never met them (because they died before they were born) or don’t remember them, I notice how their attentiveness fades as though they were sitting through an uninteresting subject in history class.

With “a grounded life” you incorporate elements of a “soft life” in your everyday life simply by changing your breathing when you’re angry or anxious, and slowing down to fully focus solely on the activity you are engaged in.

When I think of “partner,” I also think of someone who may choose to be a “silent partner” in a business. I think of the spouse or date who is willing to not be included in social media posts and photos to help the brand of their partner by letting them be perceived as a single person.

There is a lack of communication between Americans under the age of 45 that has manifested into a passive-aggressive civil war between men and women in this country, with both sides complaining there are “no good options.”

For me, the solution is empathy— to “be kind.”

You don’t have to play the game of dating to win at relationships. Dating can come naturally from your other healthy relationships. Be yourself in social settings and let the people you meet naturally gravitate toward you (and you to them).

But I also think you can learn a lot about a person based on what they choose to celebrate and how they choose to celebrate.

of all the billions of stars in the sky,
yours may not always be the brightest,
yours can’t always be seen,
yours may not always be the highest,
yours can be obscured by stars in-between,
but among all stars, yours is the strongest,
as reflected by the twinkle in your eye
