Moral psychology, politics and religion.

Coexisting with ideologies of hierarchy and hegemony is not coexistence.

How to tell you're an older person at the gym.

I make more noise getting on and off the bench than I do lifing weights.

About the same amount of noise as that gym bro on his first rep.

Dear America
If the shut down happens, y'all should just go on a general strike. Especially the air traffic controllers. And say on every platform and placard available that it's on the GOP.

Can anyone explain to me how it is that Angela Rayner has had to resign, yet from the omnishambles of the Johnson government, only Matt Hancock did?

I wrote down some notes on privatization and the transfer of wealth. Tell the MAGA in your lives that they’re subsidizing billionaires by voting for republicans.

As someone from outside America, is the National Guard not also obliged to refuse illegal orders?

"I would say, on the basis of having observed a thousand people ... if a system of death camps were set up... of the sort we had seen in Nazi Germany, one would be able to find sufficient personnel for those camps in any medium-sized American town."

"The barrier for entry in the marketplace [of ideas] was now so low that drawings [of the Laffer Curve] on napkins and large block quotes from David Hume were taken seriously by many, including the president of the United States."

Not sure how many people are following UK news, but the spurious arguments against the assisted dying bill are doing my head in. Foremost amongst them the doctors invoking the Hippocratic Oath.

I'm sorry, but calling ending a person's intolerable and immedicable pain "harm" is a misuse of the word.

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." -- Abraham Lincoln

It can be a bit pretentious starting a paper with a quote, but this seems highly apt.

It's been a while, and this post isn't ist if the ongoing series on Authoritarianism, instead it's about the Sharon Statement, the finding document of US Conservatism (so it's a little bit about authoritarianism):

The attack on Ivy League tax status feels a lot like the right-wing "think" tank ecosystem getting their own back after all their struggles with tax exemption... Admittedly that was mostly in the 70s.

In 1941 Douglas Miller published a book called 'You Can't Do Business With Hitler.'

Not sure why that in particular jumped out of this old US Army Fact Sheet I'm reading:

First blog post talking about authoritarianism is now up:
coexistential.net/index.php/20...

I wanted to post with yesterday's date to mark the first anniversary of the death of Authoritarianism researcher, Bob Altemeyer.

I'm very new to WordPress, so please excuse the clunkiness of it all.

I'm thinking of taking a leaf out of Ian @innuendostudios.bsky.social Danskin's book and do a semi-regular blog about what I'm learning while I research the psychology of Authoritarianism (for a book I'm writing). ADHD permitting.

Any interest?
