CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 27: Your favourite superhero film

Ugh. I don't care for superhero films. But as a kid, those first two Spiderman and X-Men films were top tier cinema, do let's go with this one.

Close second is Watchmen, this cinches it because I can be a kid again!!

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 26: A film that made you feel happy

I saw with a bunch of streamers for that year's Berlinale and my god did it have me grinning from ear to ear and filling my heart with pure joy. It's tough in places but this is happiness in film form

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 25: A film that inspired you

助けて。。。

It's been a while since I gave y'all a horror film to gawk at, so why not choose the film that inspired my undergrad dissertation as well as my own existential ennui and overwhelming sadness, eh?

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 24: A film made by your favourite director

To say I quickly became enamoured with Masahiro Shinoda's work would be a gross understatement. And this one, though not quite my favourite of his, is a shining example of cinema at it's most deconstructed

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 23: A film that means a lot to you personally

When I say this film is responsible for the puny human I have become, I understand red flags to be raised for some of y'all.

But it is also a gross understatement. Nothing impacted me quite like this

Why anyone would have wanted to part with this is beyond me! £5 in my local Oxfam book shop and one very happy Ibex later, I feel like I've found the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow! Culture sucks downwards, but today I'll allow myself to revel in this!

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 22: Your favourite film set in a fantasy world

Does this count as a fantasy world? In an attempt to not go for the obviously obvious answer (you know the ones) I say that yes, yes this does. Goddamn I love this so much!

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 21: A film that made you want to fall in love

Is this the healthiest film I could have picked for this? Far from it. But considering who I am, especially around the people I fall for, I saw a lot of myself in Miles. Hopefully not -as- pathetic!

Charity shop finds, no way I was going to walk away from Manwatching! The Morrison biography was a last minute spot and the other two I've been meaning to add to my collection for some time!

It's been a month. What little joy I find in anything right now I snatch up. Because right now there is very little in my life that I can find any semblance of happiness.

Falling back in love with the Manics and re-exploring jazz have been two things that light up this dark period for me.

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 20: A film that scared you

When the very first time you see the film about a cursed videotape via a videotape you had used to record the film on Channel 4 late one night causes worry your seven days will soon be up... dang, that was a long week!

10 pages into The Melancholy of Resistance and no joke this is how László Krasznahorkai describes Mrs Plauf on multiple occasions on the same half page!

And now we move on to this super cheerful monument of sugar and spice and everything nice. Forget paragraphs too, the word itself is anathema here!

I finally finished this last night, battling sleep to get those last ten pages read.

Believe the soundbite on the front of this tome. The nonchalance with which Herr unfolds the horrors witnessed by combatants, civilians, and correspondents on both sides of the conflict is simply staggering.

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 19: A film set in the future

World War III hasn't happened yet, so Chris Marker's 62-year-old masterpiece still counts damnit. I've been meaning to give this a rewatch for far too long, perhaps now is the time..

Did I mention I was a student of film?

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 18: A film you couldn't stop thinking about.

Oh, this kept my brain noodlin' away for days with more questions than answers like, "what the flying fuck is this?", "is this man a genius?", and of course "did I laugh with him or at him?"

Wow.

Fateful Findings.

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 17: Your favourite animated film

I'd be lying if I said anything else. Sure, a good number of films could claim this - Lilo and Stitch, Watership Down, and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind come to mind - but this is the definition of royalty!

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 16: A film with a number in the title

You expected me to go for Seven Samurai or 12 Angry Men, two of the greatest pieces of cinema ever commited to film? You don't know me at all!

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 15: A film that broke your heart

I don't know about breaking my heart so much, but this broke me in a way very few films ever have. I was beyond inconsolable

I also thought Grave of the Fireflies and Synecdoche, New York would be a tad cliché.

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 14: Your favourite film from your least favourite genre

I've taken "least favourite" as "one I couldn't care for" and couldn't decide if that was musicals or rom-coms - and this has elements of both so nuuurrrrrr

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 13: A film that made you want to travel

I am a sucker for a road movie and a cliché asphalt romantic! My yearning for the open road, my desert dreaming, stems from these films.

CINEWORLD'S 30 DAY FILM CHALLENGE Day 12: A film that left you feeling confused

How are you supposed to watch this film anyway?
