Who said anything about a trailer park? Not everybody WANTS to or even necessarily SHOULD watch the news 24/7 and center their lives around politics. The fact that highly educated, comfortable people in blue states engage more in more 100% has a cultural aspect

misanthropic? if you judge people for having different interests and more personal things to worry about than global politics, that’s on you. all you have to do is step outside your circle for one second to realize most people aren’t that political. and it doesn’t mean I hate them lol

+ most people just do not go out of their way to learn about global politics and have never had nonetheless actually listened to a canvasser at their door. when politics is forced in their face they pick the easy explanation

im not saying they don’t care about tax dollars in fact tax dollars is pretty much the only thing they care about. but they’re going to follow the explanation that is easiest to believe based on “evidence” they can actually see front of them. aka immigrants and welfare, not foreign debt and war

The ONLY way progressive (and pro-Palestinian) voices are EVER going to have ANY control in their country again is if you are willing to stop moral grandstanding for one second and at least PRETEND to care about the issues that affect these people DIRECTLY.

The fact is that the average American doesn’t even fucking know what the fuck Gaza is nonetheless what Israel is doing there. They don’t understand how it affects them either. They’ve never heard the phrase “debt ceiling” in their life.

fixating on the most upsetting issue you know, refusing to accept it as a complex/unpopular issue, and endlessly proclaiming how you don’t care about anybody who doesn’t know/care enough might make you feel like a hero but it saves nobody. compromise is unavoidable in life

You only think support for Israel is “wildly unpopular” because A. you’re in an echo chamber of college educated young people who’re comfortable enough to even think about global conflicts and B. because your favorite political streamer said so.

yes, the genocide is horrific. yes, colonialism is the root of all evil.

but you can’t fight anything w/o support and if you think a global conflict is in the top 50 things the avg american cares about you’re lying to yourself. only well educated + financially stable ppl understand what it even is

TLDR: The state the left is in sucks balls, but historically, the doom and stagnation we feel right now indicates eventual rebirth of the movement, not death. Progressive infighting could even be growing pains that bring us closer to the organized mobilization we need.

I cannot tell you how frustrated I am when all we do is infight instead of organizing, but we don’t even have a cohesive and inspiring progressive voice to stand behind…and maybe we can’t find one until we burn ourselves out and learn to compromise like the right did.

The internet has changed culture and late stage capitalism has numbed us. The tame, sterilized, polite politics of the DNC aren’t working anymore. In order to win again, the left build itself back up in a big way. But this cannot happen until we burn it all down.

ALWAYS. Even the dark ages came to an end eventually.

It is incredibly hard to take two steps forward without inciting one step back, but it is even harder for them to take one step back without inciting two steps forward. And when they manage to take take two steps? We take FOUR steps forward.

Now I’m going to get very abstract and philosophical but hear me out.

History is not an arrow. It’s a spiral, or a pendulum on a forward track. Politics have been hijacked by hateful, reactionary thinking many times before…and yet progress always wins in the end.

Right now a lot of us feel how Republicans did in 2015-2016.

We can’t envision a progressive candidate winning ever again. Liberals are calling leftists communists. Leftists are calling liberals fascists. Organization nonetheless mobilization seems impossible. No mainstream DNC candidate inspires.

MAGA hated nevertrumpers. Nevertrumpers hated MAGA. And yet, the right sorted itself out and came back stronger and more united than ever— delivering what today’s America clearly craves most: populism.

So how is this a good thing?
