3/3 Targeting US soybeans for EU tariffs thus risks creating supply issues and undermining the EU crushing industry.

As we noted last week, the trade deal is far from perfect. But for the EU grain, feed, and oilseeds sectors, it was a positive result compared to the alternative.

2/3 And even if countries like Brazil were able to export greater quantities, the seasonal nature of crops makes it extremely difficult.

That's why US soybeans in EU supplies cannot be economically replaced by soybeans from other origins in the required volumes, nor by other oilseeds for crushing.

3/3 Of course, we understand that the negative focus has been on US tariffs applied to EU goods exported to the US, which is a significant market for some important EU industries like wine producers.

We hope that further developments can create a more positive outcome for all.

2/3 Why? Because the EU relies on substantial quantities of imports from the US for both, and the EU agri sector would be significantly hurt by having to pay 30% tariffs on these imports.

As such, the outcome was positive for our sector, and will help ensure EU prices and food security.
