If you have a demo for Steam Next Fest in October - and especially if its up early or available early - reach out and let me know!

I do a list for each rounding up 10 games from each Fest showing people some of the best and most interesting games from ones that top the charts to obscurities.

Well only 13 for me - but I am in fact Canadian. Just not done all the things and a lot of Canadians won't be higher or the like there!

I'll do a longer write up at my blog at some point with citations and everything, but here's a bit on why I think Generative AI is an existential threat and a hard no line for me in anything

That doesn't mean they won't - but a lot of other companies have been taking OpenAI to court over this stuff and their attempts at summary dismissal have failed to date.

Open AI is facing 15 lawsuits right now from groups like Author's Guild, New York Times (some have been consolidated)

I think this captures Danielle Smith's comments on Pierre and what we have been seeing...

That's the category is my understanding. On the right side you see the specifics. We can see on the right there - Playing Cards, and casino machines, arcade games and similar there.

Gravity Ghost is a game I've not talked much about in the past, but it's one that impacted me deeply when I played it. It has a tremendous story, and atmosphere to go with its unique physic puzzling/platforming things. I don't want to say too much about it so I don't spoil a tremendous experience

I think I'm going to alternate janky RPGs with indies here for a bit, so let's talk about Elex, the last time that Piranha Bytes essentially remade Gothic 2. It hits the note of a well designed world, with three factions and an unforgiving world with a bit of a twist in some areas

Yes Your Grace is a brilliantly designed narrative kingdom management RPG, where you play as the king and need to make important decisions about your kingdom... and your family. Sharp writing, and a great structure make this a game that is an absolute gem and one who's sequel I'm looking forward to

Troika Games was a short lived but brilliant company ,and while they are best known for the wonderful Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines these days, I want to highlight Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magica Obscura, a great RPG that is unknown by many folks with a tremendous breadth of player options

I'm a big fan of the Fallout series (... especially the Black Isle/Obsidian games) so here I'm sharing what I think is the modern AAA successor in setting and gameplay to them - Wasteland 3, which was excellent and improved on the interesting but occasionally frustrating Wasteland 2 in many ways

Mount and Blade: Warband is a game I've spent a lot of time on, especially in modded versions of the game and DLC (and also its sequel). I'm not particularly good at it, but it's a very rich sandbox with a ton of things you can do in the game and leading troops .

Suikoden 2 is one of those games that is almost perfect in what it aims to do and how it accomplishes it. Released for the PS1, it has a remaster coming next year, but is rightfully regarded as a classic and you should be looking out for it, with its wonderful characters, story and gameplay

Renowned Explorers: International Society has become a go-to comfort game of mine over the years. It's an incredibly charming, irreverent, and well designed roguelite run based game that has you exploring a world kind of like it was a Jules Verne type place with innovative ideas

Planescape Torment may still be to this day the best written video game, and/or RPG and it is absolutely brilliant with its considerations of what being a game means, incorporating that, and creating weird, evocative characters, and prompting you to think about the questions it asks

ADOM is an old classical rogue-like game being a turnbased dungeon crawling permadeath procedurally generated RPG and I've been playing it for decades now. It features more story than most of the classic roguelikes, and a variety of areas, with a lot of variety in enemies, weapons, and other goodies

Shining Force 2 is the first game I ever actively hunted down, as back then you couldn't get games digitally. It's a tremendous Strategy RPG that Camelot created, building upon a strong first effort in every way possible with more exploring, characters, and battles to be an underrated gem

Since I started with one of two top 2022 games I played in 2023, let's go with the other - Pentiment!

A game with a remarkably strong art direction, Pentiment pairs it with a very well designed narrative, sharp writing, and a uniquely grounded tale that was clearly a passion project of its creators

A lot of pressure on the first - but I'll talk here about I Was a Teenage Exocolonist, a narrative raising RPG type game with "card battles" for resolution of many challenges.

It has a brilliant branching story and excellent art for an excellent coming of age tale that makes great use of the medium

Alright I'll join the trend - a chance to talk about games I love and talk with people here

I was on Bluesky as number 675,973 - putting me in the top 10%. That was a bit over a year ago. I hope this platform continues to improve and can be a better town square than Twitter is or was

The D23 Fortnite Event is going swimmingly so far... by which I mean it's replaying the same trailers and saying it's delayed

Happy Super Mario Day everyone!

I wanted to share a little bit of Mario knowledge with you: Mario Mario has used lethal weaponry:
- Bombs Away Game and Watch game Bombs Away he throws bombs in a Vietnam-esq setting.
- Super Mario Land, he fires missiles from the SkyPop Plane in World 4-3
