8 bits should be enough for everyone! Patai is my surname, because we Hungarians like it that way.

People are saying that resolution is one letter away from revolution, and I just realised that this is almost true in Hungarian too: fogadalom vs. forradalom. Either way, a happier 2026 to everyone!

Wow, after watching this video I could finally see the depth in an autostereogram for the first time in my life! Not sure why it clicked all of a sudden, because I don't think the video itself said anything new, but I'm happy it finally worked either way.

Hot off the press, here's my write-up about the technical details of the #c128 port of Stunt Car Racer:

https://cobbpg.github.io/articles/stunt-car-racer-c128-port.html

#c64 #retrocomputing
If you always thought that the #c128 is just a #c64 with a bunch of useless bits bolted on, maybe it's time to reconsider. I just released a version of Stunt Car Racer adapted to take advantage of these additional features, and the performance boost is quite significant. See for yourself!

Seriously though, when people ask what the point of learning algebra is, I think it teaches not just a set of laws for things that compose well, but the idea that sets of laws are great for designing things that compose well.

Outerversal is clearly turning into one of the most popular modern #c64 hit songs. Well deserved, I say! The variety of sounds one can get out of the SID chip is way beyond any of its contemporaries. Also, this song uses pretty much all the RAM in the machine even though it doesn't contain any […]

After some wrestling with the #commodore #plus4 palette it became clear that it's really lacking in low saturation colours as well as missing a proper dark range.

I created an experimental 256-entry palette that fixes both of these issues, and I think […]

I want to extend my gratitude for the United Kingdom for demonstrating at scale how utterly stupid "age assurance" for online services is. Now, if only the EU would learn from this. I am not certain it will happen.

I just released version 1.2 of NUFLIX Studio, which brings some small improvements. This is an application that allows you to create as close to freely pixeled 320×200 images for the #c64 as it gets.

I just discovered the fact that #simcity 2000 could be played without an SVGA card. Specifically, the Windows version could work in 640×480 with a custom 16-colour palette, and it looks surprisingly good! […]

This is strudel.cc, a live coding system to create music on the fly. In a way these kinds of environments are similar in spirit to the BASIC shells of my childhood in how you build your creations incrementally, with immediate feedback.

It’s interesting how LLMs still haven’t solved the problem of believability that the much simpler procedural story system of Covert Action suffered from over three decades ago. Complexity without purpose is clearly not enough. https://www.filfre.net/2017/03/whats-the-matter-with-covert-action/

This #msx Turrican project is really impressive, and it seems to be coming along nicely. The visuals are top notch given the limitations of the venerable TMS9918 chip.

Obscure trivia time! It turns out that Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil fame wished for a #c64 as a child but got a #plus4 instead. If only she had known how far the homebrew scene would take the latter!

Okay, @lukhash has really outdone himself with his new album, Home Arcade! It's fun to pick out the musical references, e.g. how 199X uses samples from the Pinball Fantasies intro tune.
