Sometimes I like to leave notes for myself before going on break to remember how close we are to finishing a run.

still super impressed by this large N scale layout
October 8, 2025 at 3:36 AM
when it came to layouts N scale dominated this show but there was one layout representation HO and a Lionel static display. vendors wise it was the opposite, with almost no N scale but a lot of HO and O. All that said, there was lots of cool stuff to see and buy and I had a great time as alway ^^

Just a bit of recap from the white river junction train show. it wasn’t a large show but it was fun! got to see some familiar faces, and collect more books & scenery supplies. The club I’m a part of set up our T-Trak modules for the event

The next morning we woke up to breakfast in the diner and rolled into the Bay Area.

As we climbed into the mountains our views grew hazy, but still gorgeous. turns out there were wild fires in the region just close enough to catch us in the smoke. While at diner our seats were turned over into bunks. Before turning in for the night we enjoyed a fresh air break at Klamath Falls.

The dining car on the Coast Starlight was wonderful! Had a lovely conversation with a couple taking the train for the first time. The conversations nice, views spectacular, and food Delicious.

scenery wise we started passing through orchards, farm fields, and made our way into the mountains.

Portland was a treasure trove of trams and light rail.

We were hoping to catch the talgo, but the amfleet I cars were a fine ride. They were a bit rough but not too different than I’m use to on the Vermonter. We ended this first day in Portland where we met up with friends.
