Fucking Vin Diesel. Argh. The book has so many ideas. The director wanted to use them.

".... Mathieu Kassovitz was supposed to have free reign over the production. Based on this and his interviews, he wanted something like CHILDREN OF MEN rather than ''Generic Sci-Fi Action movie no.457''. No one listened to him, his ideas or how the sets should be." 3/n

"... at the end of the production, Vin Diesel was re-writing scenes and an American second-unit director took over the director's seat: ''Americans did Bad Boys so........you know, Bad Boys was awesome, so they know what they're doing. So you let the Americans do it and you just listen, right?'' 2/n

Turns out Dantec died a few years back, which is a shame. More of his stuff should have been translated. Only other one I read so far is Grand Junction, which was also wonderfully mad.

They made a really terrible film of it - Babylon AD, starring Vin woodblock Diesel - terrible in the sense of terrible, and terrible in the sense of barely recognisable as the same (admittedly unfilmable) book. Trying to track down a copy of it to hate-watch it again, but can't find it.

all answers will be radically politically biased, no?
but: best? = Kirk/Lange
worst = Luxon/Key
decline = how to measure in a fallen world?
"quality" = combo of giving a damn about human beings, and actually getting things done when in power (the latter where Jacinda falls down)

I occasionally check in on TikTok. Recently I've noticed a large amount of political content being GenAI. And not obvious GenAI, the stuff you can only notice if you've worked in and track latest video gen models.

None of the people commenting or interacting with a post notice they are fake.

They would fail to get elected since modern democracy is broken and corrupt and those who win at Capitalism (and own the media) won't fund their campaign
