Meranze's new post at the Remaking blog: UC officials are making technical changes in personnel policies in a way that could allow them to set academic freedom aside when they perceive it to conflict with their institutional interests. Know the fine print utotherescue.blogspot.com/2025/11/uc-m...

More of the abject collapse of corporate America before Trump. The head of the FCC threatens ABC with (illegal) license pulling, ABC owner Disney's CEO Bob Iger cancels Kimmel. Iger suspends the First Amendment: Boycott Disney!

I wrote a new post at Remaking on the Brown U agreement--much worse than announced--and what it would take for faculty to block defeatist policy. I discuss 5 statements--Paxson at Brown, @adam_tooze vs. @lionel_trolling, Paul Campos, Rachid Khalili. The final 2 really help. An Athens sunset. /1

The survey is billed as "few support punitive funding cuts to colleges and universities."But actually only 45% oppose them, throwing in the "somewhat oppose." Trump has controlled US political discourse for 10 years with 40% approval, so to reverse his heinous nonsense means actively building bigger

@insidehighered.com has a hopeful piece on public support for higher education, but sadly the data's not so great. Here's a screenshot from the underlying study. I'm not excited that 44% favor "courses that teach about racism." IHE: www.insidehighered.com/news/governm...

Further to my belief that Trupp is the gravedigger of the U.S. economy, this from an Aston U report at the FT. Tarrifs hurt North America the most, taking down peaceful neighbors to north and south, then the US itself. Tech tax haven Ireland is the only real victim among European "enemies."

it's completely maddening that McMahon of world wrestling can casually destroy the Dept of Education, especially its units collecting data on things like racial inequality of attainment, without evidence of a problem and with only a bullshit PR statement about how gutting is really efficiency.
