Taking spectra of 3I/ATLAS with Keck I/LRIS tonight! Here it is in the finder scope in the blue box #3IATLAS #Comet

I'm observing supernovae on NASA's Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) tonight! IRTF is a 3.5m telescope on Mauna Kea. Here's the view from the MORIS guider of the Type Ic SN2025mqc. The core of the host galaxy (NGC 4653) is on the right side, while the SN is the bright point source in a spiral arm.

Just spent the night on Keck II taking near infrared spectra of supernovae. We're still observing SN2023ixf over 2 years after it exploded!

New supernova just dropped! SN2025mvn is a Type II supernova (massive star core collapes) at a distance of 18Mpc. That's really close! The SN shows strong flash emission features. This is only seen in very young supernovae where energy from the SN is pumped into into circumstellar material.

I was just interviewed by @fcain.universetoday.com to talk about Type Ia Supernovae and the science I do with them. CHeck it out on youtube!
