Lead consultant geo exploring underground for safe and durable storage for CO2 ☁️, H2 🔋, and radwaste ☢️! 🇮🇪 🇵🇹 🇪🇺
The final version of our paper comparing onshore and offshore #CO2 storage using in-situ mineralisation is now live! Find it open access🔓here: doi.org/10.1144/esss...

Ireland has great potential for in-situ CO2 mineralisation. However, policy roadblocks must be overcome to unlock these resources, ensuring the country reaches its #EU-mandated emissions targets. Read the paper, share your thoughts, and lets collaborate!

When it comes to public perception and social license, it's not as simple as 'offshore is easier'. A review of published studies shows that considerate stakeholder engagement, throughout project development, is the best approach.

Offshore reservoirs offer much larger storage volumes, but are often in more challenging operating environments, increasing exploration and development costs, roughly by an order of magnitude. Both offer large storage volumes for both #CCS and #CDR.

Really excited to share our latest publication! We investigate two basalt layers in #Ireland to compare the technical, economic, and social aspects of in-situ #CO2 mineralisation offshore and onshore! Read the accepted post-print at the link below: www.lyellcollection.org/doi/epdf/10....

Check out my second Geostorage Insights article over on Substack! We explore the trapping mechanisms keeping #CO2 underground, consider how long we need to keep it safe, and explore #MRV and look at case studies of successful #CCS and #CDR projects!

Interested in the science of geological storage of #CO2? Check out my first full article on #Substack! This is the first of a seven-part series exploring the technical, economic, and societal aspects of geological carbon storage for #CCS and #CDR projects: cmnosullivan.substack.com/p/why-rocks-...

For #EarthDay I've launched a #Substack where, through a series of articles, we will explore aspects of geological storage of #CO2 for both #CCS and #CDR projects including the science, economics, and the societal impacts. Join me here: cmnosullivan.substack.com

For #MineralisationMonday, here's a sneak-peek of a figure from an upcoming publication where we compare onshore and offshore in-situ #CO2 mineralisation in fractured mafic and ultramafic rocks using Irish case studies. Thoughts and comments always welcome!

For #FoldFriday #Fridayfold intrusion-induced folding from offshore Ireland! Note how the sill folds the overlying Jurassic and Cretaceous sediments while the overlying lavas remain unfolded. The impact of the folding can be seen in the thickness map.

Planning a trip to #Armenia 🇦🇲 next year and nerding out over the symphony of stone in the Garni Gorge! Very excited to see these lovely columns of basalt in person 🤩

It's #FoldFriday #FridayFold! This particular fold is pretty important, as it contains Ireland's only active gas field which provides support to the country's growing renewable energy base. It's a really cool structure with multiple salt layers and complex faults. More info:

Let's try and get #SaltSaturday 🧂 going on here! 💪

Here's a figure looking at various geological aspects of artificial salt-cavern formation from a recent paper of mine, with a focus on geology of offshore 🇮🇪

I love structural geology, salt tectonics, and how these tie into geoenergy applications like energy storage, CO₂ capture and removal, and renewable energy deployment! My personal interest is Irish geoscience (examples below!) but I currently work on geology around the world.

Hey! A short intro; I'm Conor, a geologist working across the energy industry, including CO₂ storage (both #CCS and #CDR), H₂ storage and radwaste disposal. I've published papers focused on offshore Ireland (some example figs below) which you can check out here: scholar.google.com/citations?us...
